Details

Aim
The Women in Cyber Mentorship Programme aims to empower women in cybersecurity by addressing the digital gender divide, providing mentorship opportunities, and fostering skills development. It seeks to inspire, train, and connect women with leaders in the field while scaling efforts globally through regional and national collaborations.

Context
Launched after the CyberDrill 2020 Empowering Women in Cybersecurity Webinar, the programme responded to the identified need for role models and mentorship to enhance women’s leadership in cybersecurity. It forms part of ITU’s broader efforts to mainstream gender-focused activities and support Member States with tailored training and mentorship programs.

Outcomes
The programme has increased participation and representation of women in cybersecurity, facilitated global and regional mentorship collaborations, and created a network of empowered women. Initiatives like the 2023 collaboration with Women in Cyber Security Middle East engaged over 100 women, while Her CyberTracks further advanced targeted skills and leadership development.

Activities

The programme delivers a variety of activities, including:

  • Mentorship Circles: Monthly online sessions providing guidance on professional and personal development topics.
  • Webinars and Trainings: Inspirational talks and technical courses to build essential skills.
  • Her CyberTracks Training: A five-month blended curriculum combining self-paced and instructor-led training, mentorship, and onsite study visits to cyber organizations.
  • Regional Collaboration: Localized program implementation, such as partnerships with Women in Cyber Security organizations.
