“This initiative by the United States of America and Canada stresses the importance of cybersecurity awareness campaigns, with the aim to educate governments, private industry, educators, and individual citizens to spot potential problems and understand their individual roles and responsibilities for creating a safer cyberspace. Members of the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise (GFCE) are invited to join.

In the United States, the U.S. government in coordination with the National Cyber Security Alliance and private sector partners, leads the national cybersecurity awareness campaign, Stop.Think.Connect.™ Stop.Think.Connect.™ is aimed at increasing the understanding of cyber threats and empowering the American public to be safer and more secure online as a “shared responsibility”.

Similarly, in Canada, the Government of Canada leads the public awareness campaign Get Cyber Safe, which was created to educate Canadians about Internet security and the simple steps they can take to protect themselves online.

Together with interested partners, the United States and Canada will pursue opportunities for collaboration on cybersecurity awareness raising around the globe. Some possible areas for collaboration include:

  • Fostering cooperation and alignment where possible between Stop.Think.Connect.™ and existing cybersecurity awareness campaigns underway in other countries;
  • Joint promotion of cyber safety resources;
  • Coordinating cyber-focused events either in-person or via social media;
  • Encouraging global adoption of October as National Cyber Security Awareness Month.
