Summary

New Zealand’s annual cyber security awareness campaign, Cyber Smart Week, raises the importance of being secure online not only in New Zealand, but also in the greater Pacific region.

Details

Aim

Cyber Smart Week aims to reach a broad range of New Zealanders to help raise the importance of cyber security. Businesses and organisations of all sizes can take part.

Context

Research conducted by CERT NZ shows that most New Zealanders are aware of and concerned about cyber attacks, but aren’t doing enough to protect themselves online. They also see cyber security as being technical and complex and often do not know where to start.

Output

  • Cyber Smart Week has launched CERT NZ’s new programme Own Your Online. Own Your Online is a new website that helps individuals and businesses understand the online world by explaining common cyber threats and providing practical cyber security advice.
  • CERT NZ also shared ‘Five Quick Steps to Online Security.’

Activities

  • CERT NZ works with its partner organisations to take down malicious sites and keep civilians safe, and supports actors and partners in fortifying their cyber defences.
