Summary
This project established the Commonwealth Cybercrime Initiative to help Commonwealth countries with cybercrime needs assessments, training and advice on legal frameworks.
In 2013-14, the project enabled a partnership between universities in Ghana and the Open University in the UK; a local CCI project liaison in Ghana; a project co-ordinator in the UK; and a scoping visit and assessment in Kenya.
In 2014-15 it supported needs assessments were conducted in Ghana, Botswana, Dominica, Trinidad & Tobago. This included a review of the legal frameworks in Ghana, Botswana and Trindad & Tobago. CCI coordinated with a separate project deploying a UK Crown Prosecution Service advisor in Ghana.
In 2015-16, following recommendations from the Caribbean ICT and National Security Ministers meeting, a further three cyber crime needs assessments were conducted in Grenada, Antigua & Barbuda and Barbados. Also in 2015-16, the project updated and disseminated Commonwealth guidance on cyber legislation, including Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) and Electronic Evidence (EE).
