Summary

The APAC Incident Response Fellowship (IRF) program aims to promote gender inclusivity by supporting female practitioners and increasing gender diversity within the Asia-Pacific incident response community. Organized under the FIRST APAC Incident Response Fellowship initiative, the program enables fellows to attend the FIRST Asia-Pacific Regional Symposium, held in collaboration with the APCERT Annual General Meeting in Taipei, Taiwan, in November 2024 (hereinfafter “the event”). The joint event includes a shared plenary session and a training workshop.

Details

Aims

The FIRST APAC Incident Response Fellowship (IRF) initiative aims to:

  • Increasing the gender diversity at the event and within the regional incident response community.
  • Support Asia-Pacific incident response practitioners in accessing professional development opportunities through participation in the FIRST Asia-Pacific Regional Symposium.
  • Strengthen regional and global networks of trusted incident response professionals.

Context

Networks of capable and trusted partners at the global, regional, and local levels form a cornerstone for effective incident response. Fostering trusted operational communities of practice to exchange lessons learned, engage in training, and build or enhance relationships is a highly effective way to develop these essential networks. Practitioner groups like FIRST, APCERT, and others operate across the Asia-Pacific region, yet they encounter challenges common to ICT and cybersecurity sectors, such as achieving gender diversity and addressing resource constraints that limit access to valuable opportunities on a regional and global scale.

Outcomes

The proposed fellowship program seeks to:

  • Support eight fellows to participate in the FIRST Asia-Pacific Regional Symposium and associated training workshops.
  • Provide direct professional development opportunities to strengthen the skills of incident response practitioners in the region.
  • Build stronger trust and networks among participants and within the broader Asia-Pacific incident response community.

Activities

  • Select and support five to seven fellows from the region to attend the symposium, prioritizing diversity in the selection process.
  • Fellows will attend the shared plenary day (7 November 2024) and the training workshop (8 November 2024), held in collaboration with the APCERT Annual General Meeting in Taipei, Taiwan.
  • Provide opportunities for fellows to engage with peers, share knowledge, and build professional relationships during the event.
  • Focus on increasing inclusivity within the incident response community through targeted selection of fellows and event programming.
