20th Annual Workshop on the Economics of Information Security (WEIS) 2020
The field of the economics of privacy and security has grown substantially since it first began. However, the workshop has remained the leading forum for interdisciplinary scholarship on information security, combining expertise from the fields of computer science and electrical engineering, economics, social science, business, law, and policy. WEIS embodies the idea that responding to security problems through purely technical means is a losing strategy because it leads to an arms race. Interdisciplinary research is needed: an understanding of attacker incentives, motivations, and behaviors is necessary to accurately model future attacks so that information security professionals can more effectively defend their systems. WEIS is also regularly attended by policymakers, because it provides a forum for them to both understand how to craft more effective policies, as well as directly interact with those who their policies are likely to impact.
