Activities

To combat cyber-attacks and cybercrime activities, Tonga National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT Tonga) conducted a five-day awareness program in Vava’u on cyber related threats that are happening in Tonga and how to mitigate the impact. The weeklong program which ran from 15th – 19th February 2021 brought together representatives from private sector, line ministries mainly the Officers in Charge and IT personnel, Tonga Police, principals and teachers from secondary and primary schools, town officers, district officers and youth.

The awareness program was based on the following;

  • Be aware of the cyber incidents that occurred in Tonga, have understanding of some of the ways to mitigate the chances of a cyber-attack taking place and be aware of the functions and services CERT Tonga provides.
  • Understand of what is the position of the churches council in the cyber safety area and what you can do to mitigate the risk and support the public.
  • Be aware of the various bills and legislation related to cyber/online activities. And;
  • Know of the various complaints/issues reported from the public related to cyber and ways they can minimize those issues.
