Establishment of a National CIRT in The Bahamas

Aim

The project focused on supporting the establishment of national CIRT in the Bahamas. The scope and objectives for this project were:

• Creating a functioning national CIRT, able to provide its constituents with a basic set of services;
• Building human capacity at the national level in the field of cybersecurity and train the future CIRT staff on CIRT operations and incident response;
• Improving the national preparedness on the identification, prevention, response, and resolution of cybersecurity incidents at identified constituents of the CIRT;
• Ensuring the utilisation and operation of the CIRT by building an effective and efficient capability that is ready to respond to cyber threats;
• Assisting the country with the development of awareness programmes to improve cybersecurity posture of the identified constituents;
• Increasing the ability to enact security measures and to deploy effective responses when security incidents occur.

Outputs

The National CIRT-BS was established with a fully operational SOC and equipped with CSIRT technologies. The CIRT also has well-established defined policies and procedures, a well-built service plan including processes and SOPs.

Outcomes

CIRT-BS has a pivotal role to play in supporting the government of The Bahamas in addressing cybersecurity-related issues at the national level and preparing for, detecting, managing, and responding to cyber incidents. The agency drives the recently approved National Cybersecurity Strategy (NCS) of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas which determines responsibilities and mandates of key cybersecurity government and non-governmental actors and directs allocation of resources to the emerging and existing cybersecurity issues and priorities.
