Summary

The Central Bank of Lesotho has successfully completed a four-day Cyber Incident Response Training, facilitated by the European Union’s CyberNet experts, aimed at enhancing the bank’s cybersecurity capabilities and strengthening national financial stability.

Details

Aim 

To enhance the cybersecurity capabilities of the Central Bank of Lesotho and strengthen national financial stability in response to a major cyberattack suffered in 2023. 

Context 

Following a major cyberattack in 2023, this training is part of a broader partnership with the EU and the Government of Lesotho, supported by EU CyberNet, which focuses on providing technical assistance to bolster cybersecurity efforts. Scheduled for 02 to 06 September 2024, the training will be conducted virtually and will cover risk management, protection of business processes, information security standards, information security management, IT security assessment and best practices, monitoring, threat detection, and exploit and malware analysis.

Outcomes 

Expected outcomes included improving measures for protecting sensitive financial data and maintaining essential services.

Activities 

  • Practical exercises on choosing security standards and managing risks 
  • Sessions on IT security best practices, monitoring, threat detection, exploit and malware analysis, and information security management 
  • Discussions on information security standards and management practices
