Aim
To improve safe digital access, bring excluded populations into the digital economy, reduce poverty and stimulate inclusive economic growth through strengthened cyber capabilities and reduction of harm in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa.
Context
Amidst a persisting global digital divide, millions remain marginalized from the digital economy, exacerbating socioeconomic disparities. This gap, compounded by cybersecurity deficiencies, particularly in middle-income African nations, creates fertile ground for cybercrime, impeding economic progress and eroding trust in technology. Vulnerable populations bear the brunt of cyber harm, necessitating urgent action. African governments are fortifying cyber defences and fostering digital literacy to mitigate risks.
The Africa Cyber Programme (ACP), funded by the FCDO, addresses this challenge head-on, investing £3 million over 16 months to bolster cyber capabilities and curb harm in Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa. By prioritizing inclusive digital access and resilience-building, the ACP aims to empower nations to navigate the digital landscape securely, fostering sustainable economic growth and bridging the digital divide.
Outcomes
- Enhance cybercrime prosecution across Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa.
- Safeguard Nigeria’s Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) against cyber threats.
- Increase cybersecurity awareness throughout Kenya.
- Stimulate cyber career opportunities to underprivileged students.
