Promoting Cybersecurity Due Diligence Across Africa (*GFCE Initiative)

Suggest a page edit

Summary

The aim of this initiative of the United States of America and the African Union (as members of the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise) is to promote a culture of cybersecurity on the continent by developing the policies, legal frameworks and organizational structures necessary to improve cybersecurity due diligence and effectively combat cybercrime. As the use of Internet and mobile phones expands throughout sub‐Saharan Africa, nations are faced with multiplying cyber threats that need to be coordinated and managed at national, regional and international levels.

This Initiative builds on previous U.S‐AUC efforts to raise cyber capacity on the continent by assisting African member states to develop the key components of a national cybersecurity framework required to support national and international engagement on cyber policy. These include building a culture of cybersecurity by engaging a variety of stakeholders within and outside of governments to train, educate and raise awareness, develop national cyber strategies, enact and enforce comprehensive legal frameworks relating to cybersecurity and cybercrime, and build organizational structures to improve cyber incident management capabilities in Africa.
